Time To Clean House (migrated)

(originally published Nov. 2, 2011)

As documented in the previous post, we have been experiencing some unsettling events in our home. Large, dark, blob-like shadows moving across the walls and loud banging are two of the events we’ve been experiencing.

There are further events to report. Charlie has become increasingly clingy and jumpy. Rascal – who is usually oblivious to everything – is also becoming clingy, which is totally out of character for her. Roger recently informed me that he, too, has heard very loud banging and knocking on the walls that he hasn’t been able to explain. He also stated that these events have occurred when I have not been home.

We have investigated the heating ducts, furnace, and refrigerator in an attempt to find the source of these bangs and knocks.  So far, we have not been able to locate a cause, nor have we been able to replicate the sounds we’ve been hearing.

I am not sleeping properly. I fall asleep, and then, an hour or so later, I’m suddenly awake, for no apparent reason. This goes on all night, and by morning, I’m exhausted to a degree that makes it very difficult for me to function properly throughout the day.

While I am not frightened by these events, I do feel wary and unsettled. I do not have a sense that there is harmful intent, but I also sense that the cause of these disruptions is not harmless, either. These events are not isolated to evening incidents; they are occurring during the day, as well, and I am becoming concerned for the health and well-being of us and our cats.

In an effort to resolve these events, I am going to conduct a house cleansing. We will take further measures only if this fails – and I do not expect failure. Meanwhile, I will continue  documenting events as they occur, as we know, now, that they are not isolated incidents.

And More Strange Happenings (migrated)

(originally published Oct. 24, 2011 as “Event Update”)

A couple of new events have occurred in the house since the last posting on October 4. In the past week, there have been two occasions in which a large blob-like shadow has appeared while I’ve been watching TV.

The first occurrence was during the day, while Roger was at work. A large, dark shadow with no definable shape moved across the wall by the top of the stairs that lead to the front door. There were no vehicles, animals, or people outside at the time, nor were there any low-flying planes in the area that could cast that kind of shadow. Charlie and Rascal were asleep on the love seat when this event occurred.

The second occurrence was at about two in the morning. Roger was in bed, sleeping; as usual on a work night, the bedroom door was closed. I had the table lamp on, and while watching TV, a large shadow with no definable shape moved in front of the light, throwing the living room into near total darkness for roughly two to three heartbeats. On this occasion, Charlie, who was sleeping soundly on my chest, bolted awake, turned himself around to face the TV, and began tracking something I could not see. Whatever he was watching moved from left to right near the ceiling, then went directly overhead and stayed there for several seconds – and then, it just disappeared. When it disappeared, Charlie went back to sleep; while he was tracking it, however, his eyes were wide as saucers, his fur was up, and his ears were slightly back, not forward like they usually are.

In the past week, there have been several occasions where I’ve been puttering around the house, and suddenly, the hair on the back of my neck stands up and I sense I am not alone. I know that if I turn around, I won’t actually see anyone standing there, but I turn around anyway.

For the past few nights, at around the same time each night – between 1:30am and 2am – I have heard extremely loud banging. I have checked the furnace and the heating ducts, and they are fine. Also, these odd sounds are specifically repetitious:  4 very hard bangs that actually cause the floor to vibrate, as if someone is pounding the ducts with their fist.

While I do not sense any potential malice, I do feel on edge when I’m alone in the house, and I’m thinking about setting up the voice recorder for an overnight session. My digital camera is not functioning properly, so running video isn’t an option. But if I run the voice recorder and capture anything, I can upload the files and present them here for analysis.

Although I am puzzled by these recent events, I am not frightened by them. If anything, I appreciate the opportunity to study this phenomena, and I hope to find the cause for its appearance.

More Strange Events (migrated)

(originally published Oct. 4, 2011 as “New Events”)

Since the last week of September, we have been experiencing some unexplained events in our house. Odd sounds that can’t be accounted for, voices that can’t be explained… Our most recent event was last night:

It started around 10:30pm. I was up watching TV; my husband was snoring loudly, and the bedroom door was closed. Both cats were curled up asleep on one of the loveseats in the living room.

While watching TV, I heard the sound of a door opening. I thought it was my husband getting up to go to the bathroom, but when I looked down the hall, the bedroom door was closed. I listened, and I heard him snoring. I paused my program and got up to investigate, checking all the rooms, including the kitchen. The only door that had been closed was the bedroom door; all the other doors were open, as they were supposed to be. Finding nothing amiss, I went back to the living room and resumed watching my show.

A few minutes later, I heard the sound again. Again, I searched for the source, and again, I found nothing. I went back to the living room and resumed watching my show.

The third time it happened, it woke both of the cats. A door was definitely being opened somewhere in the house, but every time I checked, everything was as it was supposed to be. I even checked the furnace room door in the basement. It, too, was closed. The bedroom door remained closed, my husband was still snoring, and the doors in the other rooms were all still open.

This event occurred twice more before I decided I was going to go to bed. When I got into the bedroom and closed the door, my husband woke up and got up to go to the bathroom. While he was in the bathroom, I heard a very clear, male voice say, “Hey! You!” from the bedroom doorway. I called out to my husband, asking him if he’d spoken; he said no. I asked him if he had just spoken to our cat Charlie; he said no.

I tried – without success – to get comfortable in bed while I waited for my husband, but I felt very uneasy and tense. This bothered me, because we have been co-existing with what we’ve come to call our “residents” since 2005, and in six years, I have never felt the kind of uneasiness I felt last night.

I have not initiated any investigative work in the house, yet. I need to wait and see if the activity is going to continue – and possibly, increase – or if these and the previous events are isolated incidents.
